Chris Stewart of the Crimson Tide Sports Network gave an emphatic punctuation to the call of Alabama’s 27-24 win over No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday night in Atlanta.

“The white flag has been waved from the sideline and what do you say folks,” Stewart said. “Let’s get out of here.

“Bama, a winner over the Georgia Bulldogs, claiming the SEC title for the 30th time in school history. Keep us out. I dare, ya!”

The last six words of his statement, he told AL.com after the game, were simply the thoughts of every Alabama fan at that moment.

“That just came out of my mouth,” Stewart told AL.com.” None of that is planned. I don’t script anything or plan anything. It just popped into my head. I think it was the emotion of the moment, being an Alabama fan as well as the broadcast for the Tide, it was the way I felt in the moment. Thankful I got a chance to call it.”

Since the end of the game, talk has been only about which teams will advance to the College Football Playoff. Alabama coach Nick Saban made his pitch right after the game. Kirk Herbstreit called his top 4, admitting the Nos. 3 and 4 teams are “wide-open.” Georgia coach Kirby Smart, Gary Danielson and many talking heads on social media made their opinions known, too.

“I’m saying what Alabama fans are thinking in that moment after you have beaten a team that’s won 29 straight, back-to-back national titles and No. 1 in the country right now an undefeated,” Stewart explained.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe threw a pair of touchdowns and Alabama’s defense dominated much of the way after giving up a score on Georgia’s opening possession.

The Tide (12-1) sorted out its quarterback situation and hasn’t lost since. The victory over Georgia was the Tide’s 11th in a row and may be good enough to give them a big boost in the selection committee’s eyes.

Georgia (12-1) will have to hope its dominance over the last two seasons persuades the committee to provide a shot at a do-over in the playoff.
